WordPress Conversion Tracking: A Step-by-Step Guide

Step 1: Getting the right tools
The first tool you will need to install and get used to is Google Analytics. This is a free tool that you will use not only for tracking conversions but for keeping tabs on marketing performance in general. One of the easiest ways to install Google Analytics is to use the MonsterInsights plugin. With it, you will also get Ecommerce tracking, form tracking, Google Ads conversion tracking, and other tracking tools. Step 3: eCommerce conversion tracking
Once you install MonsterInsights and set up your account you’ll need to go to your Google Analytics account and enable enhanced eCommerce tracking. To do you need to head on to the Google Analytics dashboard and select your website. Then head on to the admin area and click on the “Ecommerce settings” link in the “View column“. There you will be able to turn on the “Enable Ecommerce” and “Enable enhanced Ecommerce“.
With this done, you will have to set up eCommerce conversation tracking in MonsterInsights. First, head on to the Insights -> Addons and install the add-on for eCommerce. Once you do that head on to the Insights -> Settings page and switch to the eCommerce tab. There you can select the “Use Enhanced eCommerce” option. By doing so, MonsterInsight will automatically detect and set up the necessary eCommerce tracking settings. To properly track conversion rates you should monitor reports from both Google Analytics and MonsterInsights.
Step 4: Form conversion tracking
Another way to tackle WordPress conversion tracking is to monitor form conversion rates. This is especially useful if people visiting your websites need to fill out forms or book your services. To track forms you need to head on to Insights -> Addons and find the “Forms” addon. Once you install it, head on to Insights -> Settings and open the “Conversions” tab. Just like with eCommerce, MonsterInsights will automatically detect your setting and properly set up the monitoring procedure.
Step 5: Google Ads conversion tracking
Google Ads are one of the most common ways in which people bring traffic to their website. Unfortunately, setting up Google Ads conversion tracking is a bit more complicated. So read the following text carefully before you start.
First, you need to log into your Google Analytics account. Then head on to the main dashboard and click on the admin button. After that, go to the “Property” column and click on the “Google Ads Linking“. With that done, you will be asked to select your Google Ads account. This should be under the same Google account as your Google Analytics. Now, head to the “Link configuration” section, set up a tittle for this link group, and activate the All Website Data. After this, you need to check the “Share my Analytics data with linked Google Ads accounts” option and save changes. By doing this, you’ve managed to link Google Ads to your Analytics account.
Now, you need to log into your Google Ads account and click on the “Tools & Settings” option. Then go to the Measurement column and click on the “Conversions” button. After that, you will get a window where you will have to select the “Website” option. Now you can configure your conversions tracking by selecting all the aspects that you would like to track. Once you configure them, click on the “Create and Continue” option. All that remains is for you to install the tracking code for your website.
Step 6: Facebook conversion tracking
Facebook is one of the largest social media platforms when it comes to businesses. So, it stands to reasons that you should tackle WordPress conversion tracking related to it. To do so you need to install the Facebook Ads Manager. After that, select the “Event Manager” option. In the following window click on the “Add New Data Source” and select the “Facebook Pixel“. The Facebook Ads Manager will proceed to automatically create a Pixel for your ad account. What you need to do is to click on the “Set up Pixel” button. Then click on the “Manually add pixel code to website“. Here you will see a code snippet. Select it and then copy/paste it as plain text into a Notepad.
The next thing to do is to install a header and footer plugin. Then go to the Setting -> Insert Header and Footer and paste the code from the Notepad and save your settings. Now switch back to the Facebook Pixel tab and enter your website’s URL. Now you can choose which events you want to track and follow on-screen instructions for precise settings.
