Every website designer knows how important it is to make good use of your footer. As it is usually the last thing that your viewers see, it holds a special value that you cannot substitute with other website elements. But, unfortunately, it isn’t always easy to decide how to use your footer and which content to place in it. So, with this in mind, we are going to give you 10 things to add to your footer on the WordPress site.
Things to add to your footer on the WordPress site
If you are completely new to website design, the footer is the area that appears below your standard website content. Most websites make good use of the header (the top area of your website) and footer as they are the first and the last thing that your users will see. With this in mind, it is important to choose the right content to place in your footer. Here are some options that you can take into consideration.
Images
Let’s start off with something simple. Namely, if you are running a non-profit website, and you merely want to showcase your content, you might consider adding an image as your footer. Images tend to invoke feelings. And a good image can give your content just the necessary feel so that the viewer enjoys them even more.
To add an image to your footer you need not do much. Simply head to the Appearance -> Widgets page and select the Image Widget. Once you do, drag and drop it to the footer area.
Links
Now, let’s move on to the most common option websites opt for. Internal links are a common choice for footer content as they make navigation easier. You can choose to link your blog page, as well as Contact, About us, or other pages that your users might need. To add links, you first go to Appearance -> Menus. Then you click the “create new menu” link. Once you enter the name, click the Create Menu button. How you can select the items that you wish to Add to Menu. Once you are finished, click the Save Menu button.
After creating your menu head to Appearance -> Widgets. There you can add the Navigation Menu widget to the footer (similarly to Image Widget).
Code
The easiest, and most reliable way to add code to your footer is through the Insert Headers and Footers plugin. Once you’ve installed and activated it head to Settings -> Insert Headers and Footers. In the Scripts in the Footer box, you can paste your code snippet. Just remember to click the Save button in order to save the changes.
Privacy policy link
Depending on what kind of website you are running, and where you are situated you might be liable to certain privacy regulations. To adhere to these privacy protection laws, website owners usually add a privacy policy page and put a link to it in the footer. Knowing this, WordPress made it quite easy to create and add a policy page to your footer.
The first thing to do is to head to the Setting -> Privacy page. There you’ll already have an available draft. You can choose to use it as is, or alter it to fit your needs. After this, you will need to add more info about your privacy policy and publish the page. Once you do that, it is fairly straightforward to add the page to your footer.
Copyright Date
Adding a Copyright date is quite common for websites, especially if they had to deal with duplicates before. To do so, you simply need to head to Appearance -> Customize and look for the footer setting. Next, you need to create the copyright symbol by adding text in the following format:
- © Copyright 2016-2021. All rights reserved.
Once you do so, don’t forget to publish the theme changes in order for them to take effect. Just keep in mind that you will have to update the date each year.
Social Buttons
First, install and activate the Social Icons Widget plugin. Once you do, go to the Appearance -> Widgets page. There you can add the Social Icons widget to your footer area.
Phone number
Install the WP Call button plugin. Once you do so, head to the Settings -> WP Call Button page. There you first need to set the “Call Now Button Status” to active. Once you do that, you can add the phone number and chose whether you want to also add the call button.
Instagram feed
Along with images, your Instagram feed can be a terrific benefit to your footer. To add it you first need to install and activate the Smash Ballon Instagram Feed plugin. Once you do that, head to the Instagram Feed -> Settings and click the “Connect an Instagram account” button. Simply follow the on-screen instructions to connect your Instagram account. After you’ve done this, head to the Appearance -> Widgets page and add the Instagram Feed Widget.
Sticky Footer Bar
Does displaying notifications or special offers in the footer area sound like a good idea? Then you need to use a sticky footer bar. To make this possible you need to use the OptinMonster. Once you’ve made an account and installed and activated it head to the OptinMonster -> Settings. There you need to click the “connect existing account” button. After you’ve connected it, head to the OptinMonster -> Campaigns page. There you need to click the “Add New” or “Create your first campaign” button. In the following screen choose the “Floating Bar” for your campaign type. By doing so you will go to the OptimMonster campaign builder. Since it is drag-and-drop it is fairly straightforward to add the sticky footer bar to your website.
Contact form
The last of the things to add to your footer on the WordPress site we will go over is the contact forms. Here you need to install the WPForms plugin. Once you do head to the WPForms -> Add New page to create your contact form. After you’ve created it, head to the Appearance -> Widgets page. There you can add the WPForms widget to the footer area.
